The most western and third largest province in Cuba, Pinar del Rio is a gift for the senses. Its peculiar landscape mixes green flatlands with the unique, not-too-high hills known as “mogotes”. An exuberant vegetation, valleys, caves and rivers are some of the remarkable features of this land in which grows the best black tobacco of the world, the raw material for the renowned “habano” cigars.
In this special scenario lovers of nature will find the ideal routes for hiking, biking in the mountains as well as many caves and valleys to explore. The highlight of the region is the Valle de Vinales, a spectacular valley located in Sierra de los Organos, containing a series of large caverns and grots that has been declared as Mankind Heritage by UNESCO. Other places of interest are Sierra del Rosario with its numerous endemic species. Pinar del Rio has, to top it all, crystal clear beaches such as Maria La Gorda, the dream place to enjoy water sports.
