Two million people live in Havana, making it the most populated city of Cuba and the largest capital of the Antilles.
Being the last of the seven colonial villages founded by Spanish conquistador Diego Velazquez, its original placement was on the south coast of Cuba, in the territory occupied by the indigenous chief Habaguanex. Later, in the year 1519, the settlement was moved to the current and definitive location, on the north coast, by the magnificent bay of Carenas.
