Most of the territory of Villa Clara is flat, with the exception of the Escambray Mountains located at the south tip of the province. Its highest peak is Pico Tuerto with 935 meters of altitude.
A causeway links the communities of Caibarien and Cayo Santa Maria, a key off the northeast coast. This engineering prodigy was acknowledged with the Puente Alcantara award, Iberia-America’s most prestigious engineering award. This viaduct- 48 kilometres long, has 45 bridges permitting the flow of sea currents, its tidal fluctuations and free circulation of the zone’s marine fauna. Rich in plankton, the area around the causeway teems with different varieties of lobster and fish.
The national highway is the main road that connects Santa Clara, the provincial capital, with Havana. The local airport “Las Brujas” offers facilities for small and mid-sized planes.
